Grocery store announces Nov. 19 closure

Officials with the town of Cheraw announced Sunday that Bi-Lo supermarket intends to close the Cheraw store, located at 8 Chesterfield Highway, effective Nov. 19

An emailed inquiry to the company’s corporate headquarters was not immediately returned.

The page administrator suggested to the page’s 6,197 followers “to share  your disappointment and concerns regarding this decision (to) please contact Bi-Lo” then offered the corporate phone number, 800-768-4438, and business hours of Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bi-Lo Holdings LLC is the parent company of Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie grocery stores. Julianne Roberts, corporate communications specialist, said the store will close “on or before Nov. 19” and that “shortly after employees working in the store were notified, Cheraw officials neared of Bi-Lo Holdings’ intentions to close the store on Friday, when a representative from the company placed a courtesy call to notify local leaders that one o four stores in their community is closing.”

Robert said the store averages about 65 positions, and that “associates will have the opportunity pursue open positions in other stores.”

Those who don’t find employment at another Bi-Lo, Harveys or Winn-Dixie location “will receive separation assistance as they transition from the company.”
