According to the driver, who was the lone occupant of a white Range Rover, he was driving south on Route 1 when someone began to shoot at his vehicle near Batchelor Farm Road just outside of Pinebluff. There is at least one confirmed, visible bullet hole in the vehicle located inches below the driver’s side door handle.

While attempting to flee from the people shooting at him, the driver ran off of the road, cut a power pole in half and rolled the vehicle multiple times all the way across a store’s parking lot before coming to a stop back in an upright position.

Law enforcement located the driver of the suspect vehicle approximately a block away when they arrived in front of Benji’s Convenience Store, 320 N. Walnut St.,  in Pinebluff talking with a small group of people who had stopped to render assistance.

Amazingly, the driver was not injured by the gunfire, and had also escaped the very serious vehicle accident without any obvious injuries. He declined treatment or transport by Moore County EMS at the scene.

The as of yet unidentified black male driver, was taken into custody at the wreck scene by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for driving while impaired.
