Deputies will be performing their duties wearing Class B style tactical uniforms.

Several months ago, Godfrey appointed a team of deputies to study and make recommendations for the type of uniforms they believed were best suited for the day-to-day work being performed by the deputies. The team researched this issue with officers from several law enforcement agencies. The team found that tactical uniforms were designed to resist more wear and tear than the current uniforms being used. The deputies also received input from other deputies within the sheriff’s office and tried several versions of the uniform before recommending these tactical uniforms to Godfrey.

Godfrey stated that these new uniforms will “still enable our deputies to present a very professional appearance while at the same time providing the deputy with a uniform that is more suitable for the work they are doing and more comfortable to wear.”

Godfrey stated that these uniforms will enable the deputies to perform their duties more safely because the tactical uniforms enable them to carry more equipment including tourniquets, which could save their lives or that of a resident.

Godfrey also noted that the cost of these uniforms would be less than the cost for purchasing the Class A uniforms currently being worn by deputies.

Deputies will continue to be issued Class A uniforms for court appearances and other special events.
