RAEFORD — Bobby Terry was a triple threat. And it doomed West Hoke.
On Wednesday against the host Tigers, the Rockingham Middle School running back Terry scored three rushing touchdowns, caught another from quarterback Jahyae Stanback and scored a fifth on an interception return to lead the Rockets to a 40-8 victory. It was the team’s first victory over West Hoke in six years.
Coach Patrick Hope said defensive leaders include Divine Nicholson, Jacari Terry and Trevor Whittington.
On the offensive side of the ball, Taveon Ellerbe scored two two-point conversions and Josyiah Gladden converted one attempt.
“It was a complete victory that involved great effort from the whole team,” Hope said, “but there are still some things we can improve on. It feels good to be 1-0, but our goal is to go 1-0 every week until November.”
The Rockets are scheduled to play at Rohanen Middle School at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
