Student shot at Albemarle High School, suspect in custody

ALBEMARLE — WSOC TV is reporting that police in Albemarle responded to a shooting at Albemarle High School early Tuesday morning.

Officers told Channel 9 that a student had been shot at the school and that another person was in custody. The student’s condition was not immediately available. Albemarle High School is located 55 minutes northwest of Rockingham in neighboring Stanly County.

breaking_newsThe police chief told a newspaper reported with the Stanly News and Press told that at 7:40 a.m., police were called to the courtyard at the school.

When they arrived they found a male student with a gunshot wound to the leg.

They put the school on lockdown.

City and count officers put a search team together to find the gunman.

They found the gunman, which was a male student, and took him into custody.

They met with administrators and started to evacuate students from the school.

Police and school officials are asking parents to head to North Albemarle Baptist Church at 401 Park Ridge Road.
