Raiders_logo_footballStaff report

With road wins over Rocky River and Marlboro County (S.C.), Richmond moved up to No. 6 in the CarolinaPreps.com Class 4A rankings.

The Raiders (2-0) have scored 62 points while allowing just 33 points in two contests. Richmond was ranked seventh in the Aug. 25 poll.

Richmond plays its next two games at home, including on Friday against Vance — No. 9 in this week’s polls — and Sept. 12 hosting Jack Britt.

Butler is ranked No. 1 in the poll and Mallard Creek, positioned in second, is the only 1-1 team inside the top 20. Independence is third, Scotland dropped two spots and is now fourth and New Bern is fifth.

CarolinaPreps.com had Richmond 12th in the preseason poll released on July 7. Scotland was third.

Unlike media polls or rankings based solely on records, reputation, or past championships, the Carolina Preps team ranks teams based on a variety of factors including strength of schedule, quality wins, quality losses, roster and coaching experience.
