Raiders leap into AP poll after OT thriller

Saturday’s upset of former No. 1 Butler catapulted the Richmod Raiders onto the radar of the Associated Press.Raiders_logo_football

In Class 4A competition, the 5-0 Raiders are ranked fifth among 10 teams. Richmond garnered 119 points, including five first-place votes. After losing to the Raiders at Providence High School — a game delayed 24 hours after Butler officials said at 2:15 p.m. Friday that the field conditions were unplayable — Butler dropped from No. 1 to No. 3. The Bulldogs are 4-1 on the season after their 55-54 overtime loss to Richmond.

The Raiders are No. 1 in the CarolinaPreps.com poll, No. 2 on MaxPreps.com and No. 3 in the NCPreps.com ranking.

Richmond hosts 1-4 Anson Friday at Raider Stadium for the annual Homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
