On Sept. 4, 2014, our beloved Jean Leatherbury Singletary Boyd, 87, went home to be with her savior, Jesus Christ, while surrounded by her family at home.

She was born Jan. 9, 1927 in Annapolis, Md, daughter of E.P. and Julia Leatherbury. She worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company before becoming housemother of the Hamlet School of Nursing. Later retiring from Hamlet Hospital as switchboard operator.

Jean had a compassionate heart, always putting her family and others before herself. She was always seen with a smile on her face and having a wonderful sense of humor. She was known to share her great memories and songs with anyone that was listening. She was singing up until she went home to be with her Lord. Jean will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Singletary Jr., then Paul Boyd; one brother and three sisters.

She is survived by her children, Ron Singletary of Wilmington, Judy (George) Cockman, of Greensboro, Donnie “Dink” (Janice) Singletary and Robert “Bobby” Singletary, of Hamlet; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Singletary residence at 212 Raintree Road, Hamlet. Visitation at Harrington Funeral Home Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Funeral service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Randy Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Mary Love Cemetery, Hamlet.

Those who desire may make a memorial in Jean’s memory to Community Hospice, 1791 E. Broad Ave., Rockingham, NC 28379.

The family is being assisted by Harrington Funeral Home in Hamlet.
