ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Gary Huntley Fisher passed away Sept. 16, 2014 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born June 22, 1942 in Charlotte, the youngest of nine children to Fred Coleman Fisher and Audrey Huntley Fisher. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers.

Gary was a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and N.C. State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He remained a strong lifetime Wolfpack supporter.

Gary was the Vice President and Co-owner of Industrial Sheet Metal and Mechanical Corporation in Rockingham, where he developed several patents. He had a great love for racing cars and also watching the Boston Red Sox. He was proud to serve on the Rockingham City Council.

Gary had been the chair for the Administrative Board and Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church and instrumental in starting the TV ministry of his church. He had been the President of the Richmond Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the United Methodist Retirement Homes, board member for Richmond County Hospice, charter member of the Rockingham Kiwanis Club, and on the original board of Scotia Village in Laurinburg.

Gary is survived by Kay Brewer Fisher, his wife of 49 years; daughters, Kathryn Fisher Nixon (Trot) of Wilmington and Holly Fisher Zingone (David) of Stamford, Conn.; grandchildren, Ivy Elizabeth Zingone, Kathryn Leigh Zingone, Chase Trotman Nixon, and Luke Christopher Nixon. Also surviving is his sister, Freddie Fisher Fespermen of Charlotte and his brother, Bennie Franklin Fisher of Monroe.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, Sept. 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Fisher home, 613 Fayetteville Road, Rockingham.

A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19 at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham.
