ROCKINGHAM — Mark Manz and Rich Riopel are tied and Regina Sooey leads the women as the ninth annual Hinson Lake 24-Hour Classic rolls reaches the midway point.

Rich Riopel, of New Jersey, is in a tie with Mark Manz after nearly 11 hours of racing at Hinson Lake in Rockingham.
The race began at 8 a.m. Saturday. Through 6:45 p.m., Manz and Riopel led the field with 69.147 miles, or 46 circuit around the 1.5032-mile USATF-cerified inner loop.
Dan Lenz had slipped from a noontime five-way tie for the overall lead to third with 64.638 miles, followed by Scott Adams (61.631). Joe Fejes, Toshi Yamamoto, Sung Ho Choi, Andrej Prokop, Brett Welbornand Christopher Van Pouille were in a six-way tie for fifth place with 58.625 miles apiece.
In the women’s field, Regina Sooey has led throughout. At 6:45 p.m., she had accumulated 57.122 miles and held a slim lead over Vikam Yutz and Brandy Zakrzewski, each of whom had reached 54.115 miles. Genno Cline, Abigail Bowman and Dena Harris were in a three-way tie for fourth with 52.612 miles apiece. Rounding out the top 10, with 51.109 miles each, included Cheryl Yanek, Wendy Norvell, Kelly Wells and Michelle Bingley.
