Rockingham Police Department officers are looking for a city teen who is the primary suspect in an early Tuesday morning shooting into a vehicle that just missed a Rockingham man.
Police said the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on South Skipper Street. The victim, Robert E. Watkins, said he was inside the car when Johnson fired off his 12-gauge shotgun. Watkins was not wounded int he incident. The shooting took place east of downtown Rockingham off of East Washington Street.
The suspect, Keenan “Nico” Von’derick Johnson, 17, with a South Stewart Street address, fled on foot and has not been located as of Tuesday afternoon. Johnson is described as a black male, about 5-feet, 5-inches tall and 150 pounds.
Authorities indicated it was not yet clear what happened in the moments prior to the shooting. There is no known relationship between Johnson and Watkins, police said.
Warrants have been obtained on the suspect for assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a weapon into an occupied property and discharging a firearm within city limits.
