HAMLET, N.C. — Mr. Paul Thomas Knight Jr., 28 of Hamlet passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014.
He was born Sept. 30, 1985 in Richmond County, son of Lisa McAuley Knight and Paul Thomas Knight Sr.
Paul was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. During his time in the Army, Paul was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge- Bronze. He was a black belt in Karate, having been the North Carolina and South Carolina Heavyweight State Champion simultaneously at age 17. Paul was a dedicated weightlifter, but enjoyed most of all, spending time with family, especially his son.
A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 at Second Baptist Church in Hamlet with Rev. Chris Hawks officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church.
He is survived by a son, Dillon Riley Butler of Hamlet; his mother, Lisa McAuley Knight and stepfather Chad Gardner of Hamlet; his father, Paul Thomas Knight Sr. of Monroe; sister, Heather Knight Hudson and husband Stephen Hudson of Gibson and sister, Brittany Faye Knight of Rockingham; grandparents, David and Sandie Cuddihy of Hamlet and Jerry and Judy Gardner of Hamlet.
