What began as a routine traffic stop for a Hamlet Police Department officer on Sunday turned into an arrest of a Dobbins Heights man on a number of drug and weapons charges.
An officer stopped Marcus Antiwon Douglas, 21, for driving a vehicle with an expired tag and no insurance on the vehicle. During the stop, the officer smelled the odor of what he believed to be marijuana.
The ensuing investigation yielded marijuana, pills and a large amount of cash. Officers also found a handgun.
Douglas was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of a concealed handgun, possession of drug paraphernalia, no vehicle registration and no vehicle insurance.
Douglas was held on a secured bond of $13,500 and placed in the Richmond County Detention Center.
