A work crew from Custom Monument, Rockingham, early Tuesday morning installed a granite marker in front of the 1890 Court House bell on the 1924 Court House lawn facing Lee Street and the Judicial Center.

The monument is inscribed: 1890 bell from 1889 Richmond County Court House once standing one block north. Restored in honor of those who serve, and have served Richmond County in court house office and the judicial center. Presented 2014 by Richmond County Historical Society.

The bell, rescued and restored from a courthouse basement, was installed on July 11 on the courthouse grounds.

A dedication ceremony for the restored bell will be held at a later date by the Richmond County Historical Society. The installation of the bell and marker for Richmond County was made possible by a grant from the Cole Foundation.
