Energy Ventures Camp stimulates interest of rising middle-schoolers

HAMLET — Representatives from Pee Dee Electric came today to talk to Energy Venture campers about the dangers of power lines and precautions they can take to be safe around electricity. The camp for rising 6th through 8th-graders.

They also had fun playing with static electricity, building battery-operated cars and solar-powered ovens to cook S’mores!

On Tuesday, they conducted more experiments using batteries and circuits and learned about a building a career as an electrician. The group was visited by Brian King, electrical and instrumentation supervisor for Cascades Tissue Group in Rockingham. 

There’s still time to sign up for the next session of RCC’s Energy Venture Camp that will be held July 14-17 at the Honeycutt Center in Laurinburg.

There is a scholarship available that will cover the cost of the camp. For more details, call Lauren Holland at 910-410-1848.
