Hamlet Middle School student Nicole Lawrence was recently honored at the North Carolina Education Building in Raleigh for her pencil drawing, “It’s in the Eyes.”
At a special reception to award young artists, Nicole’s work was put on permanent Display in the Education Building with the other state County winners.
Only one winner was chosen from each county by the North Carolina Art Education Association, and Nicole won for Richmond County. Each school was invited to send an entry, and Hamlet Middle School art teacher Andrea Haselhoff chose Nicole’s pencil drawing, “ It’s in the Eyes,” over all other students work as the schools entry.
Nicole previously competed in the Art Olympics in March in Laurinburg, taking home first and second place awards. That competition had 10 schools from 11 counties in attendance. Her winning art from that is on display in the middle school’s office.
Haselhoff said that Nicole’s talent has been apparent throughout her art class participation at Hamlet Middle School.
