‘History Talks’ with Joe Long

CHERAW, S.C. — The Cheraw Arts Commission and Historic Cheraw present History Talks with Joe Long
March 3, 2015 marks 150 years since Sherman’s Union troops occupied Cheraw. The Cheraw Arts Commission and Historic Cheraw invite the public to attend two talks featuring historian Joe Long.  Joe will speak about the Carolina Campaign on Tuesday, March 3rd at a midday and evening session.

There will be a Lunch Talk at the Cheraw Community Center from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. near the Burr Gallery area. Bag lunches are welcomed for those attending during lunch breaks. Beverages will be provided.  The topic of the Lunch Talk will be Sherman’s Carolina Campaign.

The Burr Gallery will feature some historical artifacts and will be open for viewing.
The Evening Session will be presented at Old St. David’s Episcopal Church at 6:30 p.m.  Joe will share information about Three Officers of the Carolina Campaign.  This talk views the events of the Carolina Campaign from the perspectives of three very different men caught up in the cataclysmic events of the spring of 1865 in our state. Both sessions are free and will last approximately one hour.
Joe is the curator of education for the SC Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum, located at the SC State Museum in Columbia. He holds a master’s degree in history from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, and has been published in Civil War Historian magazine and the journal of the South Carolina Historical Society.  Joe has also appeared on the television shows History DetectivesCarolina Stories and Mysteries at the Museum on the Travel Channel.
