ROCKINGHAM — Calling all runners and paddlers for the inaugural Run-Paddle-Run and Relay on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 in the city of Rockingham, Richmond County, North Carolina.
The event is sponsored by The Pee Dee Post & PeeDeePost.com. Proceeds will help fund The Pee Dee Post Community Scholarship, first awarded in Spring 2015 to four graduating seniors from Richmond Senior High School.
Here’s what you need to know:
Entry form: Download mail-in entry form (PDF) – available Aug. 1.
What: Run-Paddle-Run and Relay. Individual participants will run approximately 3.4 miles on hardcap, then paddle 3.67 miles along Hitchcock Creek, then run about 3.6 miles (two full loops) on the Hitchcock Creek Greenway. 2-person relay: Runner A will run from Steele Street to Roberdel. Paddler A will paddle from Roberdel to Steele Street. Runner A will run two loops on trail. (Note: Each relay runner must arrange own transportation back from Roberdel to Steele Street in time to begin the second run portion). 3-person relay: Runner A will run from Steele Street to Roberdel. Paddler A will paddle from Roberdel to Steele Street. Runner B will run two loops on trail.
When: 1 p.m. start time on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016. Race-day registration and packet pick-up begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Steele Street access point in Rockingham.
Where: Parking at the Steele Street access point (click here for map) in Rockingham. Paddlers are responsible for staging their kayaks/canoes at the Roberdel access point (click here for map) prior to the start of the first run portion.

Entry: Mail-in entry only. Individual: $45 (includes T-shirt); 2-person relay ($22.50); 3-person relay $15. Entry fees do not include event T-shirt (for relay team members) or kayak/canoe rental. Entry will open on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The fine print: Make checks payable to The Pee Dee Post or PeeDeePost.com. No refunds. No exceptions.
Donations: Additional donations to The Pee Dee Post Community Scholarship Fund are encouraged but not required and can be included with a participant’s entry form and check.
Volunteers: Looking for 3-6 reliable volunteers to help with the event. Email peedeepost@gmail.com if interested.

Water stations: Water tables will be at midway point of first run, and at the midway point of the second run.
Awards: Top 3 men and top 3 women overall, Top 3 male ages 15-19 and top 3 female ages 15-19, plus overall winners for 2-person and 3-person relay teams. That could expand based on pre-registration by Dec. 15). In addition to the overall awards, individual participants will be awarded custom finisher’s medals. No awards or medals will be mailed.
Shirts: The price of the shirt is included for individual participants (not relay team members) if registered prior to Dec. 1. Purchase of custom-designed, moisture-wicking long-sleeve full-color tech shirts is optional for all others – but very much worth the price! Each shirt is $18.50. Extra shirts are unlikely to be available on race day. No mailing of shirts for those who don’t show up; if not claimed prior to start of race, the shirt and fee both are forfeited and the shirt could be re-sold.
Bathrooms: Available at the Steele Street access point.
