WILSON — The Richmond County Speed overwhelmed the East Carolina Rams and cruised to a 50-0 win.
The victory moves the Speed to 2-1 on the season.
The defense, ranked fourth in the United Carolina Football League, forced four fumbles and allowed only four first downs the entire game. Offensively, the Speed tallied 476 yards of offense and six touchdowns. Quarterback Michael Johnson led the way with 333 yards passing with four touchdowns.
Johnson added 119 yards on the ground and another score for Richmond County.
Daily Whitten and Ross Tillman combined for 252 yards receiving and three scores. Dwayne Ratliffle also hauled in a scoring pass. Bama Bonds added a rushing touchdown in the win.
“We set weekly goals and we surpassed our goal this week,” said Speed coach Dedrick Petty. “We had a lot of back-ups step up today and (they) played lights out. I’m proud of my team but we are far from satisfied. Its a new week and we have business to handle.”
After two straight weeks on the road, the Speed return home to Richmond County to play the Capital City Cowboys on Saturday at East Rockingham Park. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
