First, thank you to all who voted in the recent elections. I’m grateful for the support across the 25th Senate District.
Now that the votes have been counted, it is time to put partisan politics aside and go to work serving the needs of our community. Let me tell you how I want to get started:
This week, I invited a representative from every municipality, county, public school board and community college in the district to meet with me and discuss their most important issues and toughest challenges. We’re holding these meetings in each of the district’s five counties.
It is my goal to have a working knowledge of the major challenges facing our citizens, our schools and our job creators prior to Dec. 1t. I plan to study these challenges and prepare a plan to meet them as best I can.
Prior to Jan. 1, 2015, I will be making contact with the department heads in the state government to establish relationships that will benefit our district.
I will be going to my first orientation on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 in Raleigh where I will be learning about the process and procedures of the Senate. I will be attending our caucus meeting on Dec. 11, where we will be choosing the leadership for the upcoming session. I am looking forward to renewing old friendships and making new ones as we prepare to represent the citizens of the 25th District.
My temporary email is mcinnis4statesenate@gmail.com in the event anyone needs to contact me prior to being assigned my official Senate email. My mailing address is PO Box 1331, Rockingham, NC 28380.
I appreciate everyone who participated in the election. I want to thank Gene McLaurin for his service to our district. I look forward to working with him as we transition to the 2015 Legislative Session in January.
Tom McInnis is the Senate-elect to represent District 25 in the North Carolina Senate.
