Obituary: Carleen Austin

Carleen Gillis Austin, 77, of Rockingham, N.C., passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mrs. Austin was born Nov. 1, 1937 in Mecklenburg County, a daughter of the late John W. and Mady Hoard Gillis.

obit_iconShe was a longtime member of Cameronian Presbyterian Church, where she had sang with the choir, was a Sunday school teacher, Elder and member of the Women of the Church and was also a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dale and Johnny Gillis.

Surviving are her husband, Bobby Eugene Austin of the home; children, Beth (Randy) Parker of Rockingham, Jonathan Austin of Rockingham, Joy Austin of Rockingham, Andy Austin of Hamlet, Joshua (Laura) Austin of Rockingham; grandchildren, Matthew Parker, Travis Austin and Jaden Austin; brothers, Phillip Gillis of Wilmington, Maxie Gillis of Hamlet, Tommy Gillis of Cheraw, Doug Gillis of Wilmington; and sisters Kay Bolin of Aberdeen and Patsy McCaskill of Rockingham.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cameronian Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wyatt Coley officiating. Interment will follow in Northam Cemetery.

The family will see friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Cameronian Presbyterian Church and at other times at the home.
