PeeDeePost.com obituaries policy

obits

As you probably know, obituaries are one of the items people view most — in print or online. My goal in starting this new online news outlet is, in part, to make obituary options affordable for everyone.
Here’s how we plan to do it – and we invite you to become a part of this new, locally owned venture into journalism and public service.
* Two options, free and paid obituaries
^ Free obituaries, also known as death notices, will be very similar to what you already are familiar with at other newspapers. The only difference here is that we want a photo (free of charge) of the deceased being recognized. Information included in a free obituary includes: name of deceased, date of birth, date of death, viewing/memorial/funeral service information, where to send memorials/donations and assisting funeral home.
^ Paid obituaries. A flat rate of $25. Unlimited length and includes up to 3 photos (allowing options for a younger person, perhaps in a military uniform or at college graduation or other lifetime milestone moment), later in life and, with the family’s assistance, a family photo – perhaps a multi-generational photo.
Of course, both the free and paid obituaries will be online ASAP and always in color.
The intent is to bill each funeral home at the end of the month. Because we’re a new and small business, we’ll look forward to being paid in a timely manner. Being locally owned, however, allows us to be responsive to your needs on the days an obituary is submitted or when other issues arise (as they inevitably do). And there is no 5 p.m. deadline on any given day. We are always open to meet the needs of you and the families you serve.
We understand that not everyone will choose The Pee Dee Post to place paid obituaries. However, we hope funeral homes in the area provide this new and ever-growing online news outlet as an affordable alternative to your clients in and around Richmond County.
It pains me to hear when a family is priced out of placed a loved one’s obituary in the local newspaper. At my previous place of employment, folks, that happened all too often. We aim to fill that void in a digital, online forum. And unlike “the other guy,” our news, information and obituaries will not be behind a paywall – which will maximize the value of news and information, but also obituaries and advertising.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I can be reached at this email address or by cell (number below). I look forward to your participation and partnership in this venture moving forward.
Thank you, in advance, for our time and consideration.
