ACCIDENT — Bill Shreve threw the only bogey-free round of the four-day weekend, propelling him to a Men’s Advanced Division victory in Week 7 of the Allegany County Disc Golf Club’s Summer Flex League at The Glades at Meshach Run in Garrett County.

Shreve, 47, of Cumberland, was one of 17 players who completed a total of 32 rounds on the full-course layout over the four-day period. Shreve finished with eight birdies en route to an eight under par 54. It was Shreve’s first outright Summer Flex League win this season. He also tied for first in Week 6.

Evan Padovini

Colby Mallery, 19, of Mount Savage, also carded eight birdies but a bogey on No. 2 proved to be the difference. Mallery finished with a 55. Scott Mallery, 55, of Mount Savage, placed third with a 57. Like his son, Mallery also finished with a single bogey — on No. 14 — and tallied six birdies.

Shreve earned five points for the win, plus one for participation, and his six points propelled him to the top of the division standings with 32 points. He is only two points ahead of Scott Mallery and four ahead of Sam Wolodkin. Colby Mallery is fourth with 25 points.

Only 10 players of the 39 players still have a chance at perfect attendance. While that is not required, missing a week or two can hurt a player’s chances for a top-three division finish — or help another player who is seeking to move up in the standings.

Women’s Division

Albina Stiffler and Nikki Raynor went back and forth for second place in the Women’s Division. Stiffler, 23, of Cumberland, took a one-stroke lead on No. 9, and gained another on No. 10 for insurance. Raynor, 46, of Vale Summit, made her 2023 Summer Flex League debut and closed the gap to one stroke twice more — on Nos. 11 and 15 — but couldn’t quite catcher her opponent.

Shania Farris, 26, of Wiley Ford, W.Va., won with a three over par 65. Stiffler finished second (81) while Raynor was a close third (83). Stephanie Spradlin, 43, of Frostburg, posted a personal best of 88 on Sunday afternoon. It was her first time on the full course. On Monday, a potential new best by Spradlin was interrupted by Mother Nature. After nine holes, Spradlin was seven strokes better than the previous day but a storm, in the form of hard rain, strong winds and hail, suspended the round. An effort to resume the round failed after only two throws on No. 10 due to pouring rain.

Krystal Mallery, 50, of Mount Savage, placed fifth with an even 100.

Farris (45), Spradlin (28) and Mallery (24) remain atop the division standings through Week 7, while Stiffler jumped into fourth place with 13 points.

Youth – Boys’ Division

Only a few days after being named the Allegany County Disc Golf Club’s Player of the Month for July, Josiah Spradlin suffered his first Summer Flex League loss since the league began in June 2022, spanning 13 weeks of play.

Josiah Spradlin

Evan Padovini, 12, of Frostburg, posted a 70, narrowly edging out Spradlin, 13, of Frostburg, who posted a 71. Luke Spradlin-Vogelsang, 10, of Frostburg, was third with an 87. While Spradlin began playing disc golf regularly in August 2021, Padovini began only in late May of 2023. He has improved so much he earned Player of the Month honors for June.

The weekly results didn’t impact the division standings much for the week. Spradlin remains on top with 41 points, while Spradlin-Vogelsang is second (32) and Padovini is third (29).

Men’s Rec Division

For the second straight week, Tim Farris posted a fantastic Friday round and it stood the test of four days of competition.

Farris, 27, of Wiley Ford, carded a seven under par 55 and six birdies en route to the weekly win. It’s his third victory in seven weeks. He’s also tied for first two other times.

Ethan Shreve, Brian Padovini and Keith Raynor each finished with a 61, tying for second place. Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, placed fifth with a 63. Raynor scored the only eagle in Week 7 across all divisions in scored rounds when it took only two throws to complete No. 13.

Farris leads the division with 42 points. Raynor, 47, of Vale Summit, is second (36) and Spradlin is third (32). Padovini, 42, of Frostburg, jumped into fourth (17) and Shreve, 18, of Cumberland, moved into a tie with Richard Smith for seventh (9).
