FROSTBURG — The Allegany County Disc Golf Club has scheduled the start of its second annual Fall Youth League for Monday, Sept. 4 at Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course in Frostburg.
Tee time is 1 p.m., and play is geared to players ages 9 to 17. There is a separately scored adult division, and adults are encouraged to participate for a competitive round but primarily serve as role models and mentors to guide the younger players along the course. Parents or guardians are encouraged to play alongside the kids on the same or sometimes separate cards, but an adult player does not need to have a child in the league in order to participate.
The club’s youth leagues format are free to play. Each season includes five play dates. Like in 2022, this year’s Fall Youth League will begin on Labor Day. The remaining four dates will be on Friday evenings through September, each with a 5 p.m. tee time. The league will rotate locations between Hoffman Park and Mile Lane Disc Golf in Mount Savage.
The club is hoping to capitalize on a local surge in interest in the game after the mid-May opening of Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course, which is the first public disc golf course in Allegany County. That, combined with the club’s recently concluded six-day effort of teaching disc golf to Mount Savage Middle School students, could be the perfect recipe to bring out new players. Several middle school students have joined the club for competitive rounds since May with high levels of success — highlighted by Evan Padovini, 11, being named the club’s Player of the Month for June.
