FROSTBURG — The Allegany County Disc Golf Club hopes to facilitate a learning environment on local disc golf courses that foster a positive attitude, a willingness to learn from mistakes, and a desire to improve.

The 12-year-old from Frostburg and Mount Savage Middle School student seems to be make the most of the opportunity presented by the club’s Summer Youth League on Tuesday night at Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course in Frostburg. Hutter threw an 87 on Friday during the club’s Summer Flex League at Hoffman Park DGC. On Tuesday, Hutter chopped off six strokes to record a new persona best of 81. He also recorded the first birdie of his young disc golf life. It came on No. 2 the second time around on the nine-basket, pitch-and-putt course.

Classmate Josiah Spradlin, 13, of Frostburg, placed first in the Youth Division with a 56, including even splits on the front nine and back nine of 28 apiece. Spradlin carded two birdies and threw for par 12 times. The mark of 56 is three strokes off Spradlin’s best on the course. He threw a 53 on May 27 during a club glow round under the stars.

Luke Spradlin-Vogelsang, 10, of Frostburg, earned a second-place finish with a 65. Ayden Hollingsworth placed fourth with a score of 53 over nine baskets. The 10-year-old from Frostburg chopped off 10 strokes from the previous week.

Adult Division

Ray “Hoss” Hollingsworth, 40, of Frostburg, threw for par 11 of 18 times (61 percent) en route to a seven over par 61. The mark is five strokes off his personal best at Hoffman Park DGC, recorded over the club’s Summer Flex League Week 2 action.

Hollingsworth finished in second place in the Adult Division. Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, tallied eight birdies — including six straight at one point — to finish with a seven under par 47. The score his is second-best mark at Hoffman Park DGC, as he threw a 45 twice over the weekend.

Week 4 of the club’s Summer Youth League is set for a 5:30 p.m. tee time on Tuesday, July 11 at Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course in Frostburg. Play is free and open to the public.
