Wolodkin takes 3rd
FROSTBURG — Bill Shreve edged Keith Raynor in the Allegany County Disc Golf Club’s first glow round at Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course on Tuesday night in Frostburg.
Tied after 18 holes at five under 49, it took two playoff holes for Shreve, 47, of Cumberland, to separate himself from Raynor, 46, of Vale Summit.
Sam Wolodkin, 20, of Frostburg, had one of his best rounds with the club and certainly his best at Hoffman Park. He placed third with a four under par 50, only a single stroke behind the winning pace.
David Warder, 32, of Frostburg, placed fourth with a 52, while Tim Farris, 26, of Wiley Ford, W.Va., was fifth with a 53. Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, placed sixth with a 54, and Shania Farris, 26, of Wiley Ford, was seventh with a 57. Noah Spradlin, 23, of Frostburg, had arguably his worst day on the new course with a 59. Luke Spradlin-Vogelsang, 9, of Frostburg, rounded out the nine-player field with a 64, only one stroke off his personal best at Hoffman. Almost always able to find a path with a right-hand backhand on No. 6, Spradlin-Vogelsang finally had a breakthrough and made the putt — both times — for birdies on No. 6 both times around the course.
Shreve and Raynor were also tied at the midway point, as both players carded a three under par 24 on the front nine. Warder was third with a 25, while three players — Wolodkin, Tim Farris and Kevin Spradlin — were knotted at even par (27). Shania Farris was one stroke back (28), while Spradlin-Vogelsang (30) was eighth and Noah Spradlin (31) was ninth.
Shreve birdied half of the regulation 18 holes, but never more than two in a row. Raynor and Wolodkin each tallied six birdies on his scorecard, while Tim Farris and Spradlin-Vogelsang had four birdies apiece.
Shreve has has a solid May so far. Five rounds in (with four to go) at Hoffman Park Disc Golf Course, Shreve has two wins, at least a tie for second twice and a tie for third.
