C. Mallery 2nd; Wolodkin, Wilson and Shreve tie for 3rd
MOUNT SAVAGE — Shania Farris left Week 1 of Year 2 of Saturday Morning Tag League with the best score among 10 competitors.
Farris, 26, of Wiley Ford, W.Va., was tied for second with Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, at the midway point. The pair were a single stroke behind the Mallery duo from Mount Savage — father Scott, 54, and son Colby, 19 — at the midway point after 12 holes. All 10 players were only six strokes apart, and at that point only three strokes separated the top seven players.
Unfortunately for everyone but Shania Farris, there were still 12 holes to go. League director Scott Mallery announced the league rules prior to the start of the round. Those rules include the allowance of female and players under the age of 18 to play all 24 holes from the short tees.

Shania Farris, right, accepts the No. 1 and the top cash payout from Scott Mallery, Saturday Morning Tag League director.
Farris threw a 32 on the first half and a 35 on the second half to wrap up the Week 1 victory on Saturday at Mile Lane Disc Golf in Mount Savage for a 67. Colby Mallery finished second with a six under par 68. There was a three-way tie for third, as Sam Wolodkin, 20, of Frostburg, Seth Wilson, 28, of Cresaptown, and Bill Shreve, 46, of Cumberland, each finished with a 71. Ethan von Hagel, 20, of Cumberland, and Timothy Farris, 26, of Wiley Ford, each threw a 72 and tied for sixth.
Spradlin had a rough second half from the long tees and slipped to eighth place with a 73, but only three strokes shy of his best of 70 on the same layout. Noah Spradlin, 23, of Frostburg, and Scott Mallery, meanwhile, finished tied for ninth with a 74. The effort was the younger Spradlin’s best on the layout by two strokes, beating out his 76 thrown on March 26.
Farris threw for birdie on six of her first 12 baskets — matching the first-half effort of both Mallery athletes and the older Spradlin — and threw three more on the back 12 to seal the win.
The field of 10 players included seven of 10 Allegany County Disc Golf Club’s Player of the Month award winners since June 2022.
Saturday Morning Tag League is open to the public. Rounds are $5 per player, plus a seasonal tag fee of $5 per player. League dates are generally set for the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, with some exceptions. The next league date is Saturday, May 27. Tee time is 10 a.m.
