GREENCASTLE —Consistency proved to be a path to success for Sam Wolodkin and Noah Spradlin as four Allegany County Disc Golf Club members competed in the 16th and final Whispering Falls Harvest event on Saturday in Greencastle, Pa.

Sixty-nine players completed two rounds of the Martin’s Mill layout, the longest of three layouts at the public park. It was a PDGA C-Tier tournament and was billed as the “last Harvest” due to their being no layout specifically called Whispering Falls. After a course redesign, there are now three layouts — Martin’s Mill, Grist Mill and Saw Mill — at Township Community Park. The tournament, hosted by the 717 Flying Disc Club, is expected to return in 2024 with a new name.

The new course is anything but easy. The published par didn’t seem to mean much on a course that sometimes seemed as if trees outnumbered blades of grass. Sixty-nine players completed 138 rounds of disc golf on Martin’s Mill. Only seven of those rounds — not quite 5.1 percent — were under par. Another six rounds — 4.3 percent — tied the par standard during the day. That left nearly 90.6 percent of the field to throw over par, including 15 players (about one-fifth of the field) at least 30 strokes over par.

Wolodkin, 20, of Frostburg, was one of four players in the MA3 division to post a better score in the afternoon round than the morning round. He threw a 14 over par 78 each session for round ratings of 852 and 851, respectively, and finished in a three-way tie with a total score of 156. Wolodkin’s PDGA rating is 863.

Frostburg State University student Ethan von Hagel, 20, of Cumberland, entered the event with an 851 PDGA rating. He threw rounds of 73 and 83 to be one of the two players tied with Wolodkin, along with Joseph Depp, of Hagerstown. Von Hagel’s round ratings were 892 and 812, respectively. Von Hagel was the club’s Player of the Month in March.

Noah Spradlin, 23, of Frostburg, has no PDGA rating as this was his first PDGA event. His first round of 81 put him in eighth place within the MA3 division. He threw another 81 in Round 2 to forge a seventh-place tie at the end of the day with Dustin Hollingsworth, of Waynesboro, Pa. Spradlin’s rounds were rated 829 and 828, respectively.

Kevin Spradlin, 44, of Frostburg, also participated in his first PDGA event and struggled throughout. He threw an 89 in Round 1 and a 90 in Round 2, earning round ratings of 765 and 756, respectively. Spradlin finished with a total score of 179, good for 14th place among 16 competitors in the MA3 division.
