CUMBERLAND — Less than a week ago, Frostburg resident B.J. Lewis threw what could be considered his worst round of 2022 when he tossed a 79 during Saturday Morning Tag League at Mile Lane Disc Golf Course in Mount Savage. He tied for last in the field.

Jump forward five days, and Lewis managed another tie — this time for first place.

Lewis and Nick Russ, 43, of Cumberland, led the field of nine players on Thursday during Week 18 of the summer league, each throwing an 8 under par 47 for the shared victory.

David Warder, 31, of Frostburg, finished two strokes behind (49) for third place. Dan Beachy, 38, of Frostburg, and Bill Shreve, 46, of Cumberland, each threw a 50 to tie for fourth. Nolan Jones and Scott Mallery, 54, of Mount Savage, each tossed a 51 to finish in a tie for sixth.

Seth Wilson, 28, of Cresaptown, threw for par (55) and Tyler Gilks, of Cumberland, rounded out the field with a 62.

Lewis, director for Western Maryland Disc Golf, tied his 2022 league best of 47, which he also threw in weeks 6 and 10. He finished more than three strokes below his season average of 50.94 after 17 weeks of participation. As for Russ, it was the fourth time since the season began in mid-March that he took home at least a share of the win. Russ finished with eight birdies, while Lewis had nine and a bogey. Warder’s bogey-free round included six birdies.

Lewis held a six-stroke lead over Russ after the front nine — with an 8 under score of 19. By No. 17, however, Russ had stormed back to tie Lewis. Both players birdied the final hole.
