FROSTBURG — Youth ages 10 and up are encouraged to register for the inaugural Youth Disc Golf Clinic scheduled for Sunday, July 3 at Glendening Park. The event will take place at Field 6, by Cotton Cove Pond, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The clinic, facilitated by the Allegany County Disc Golf Club, will introduce players to the sport of disc golf and:

  • Share fundamentals of the game, such as the rules, scoring and course etiquette;
  • Type of gear needed (disc choice, bag choice and more);
  • Throwing technique;
  • Where to play; and
  • Introduction to league play.

Players will have the opportunity to practice drives and putts, and throw in clear fields as well as near hazards, including trees and water.

Players are reminded they should not wear open-toed shoes for the clinic. They should wear sunscreen and a hat. Wearing bug spray is optional but encouraged. Each player is required to bring a bottle of water.

To help keep the game as affordable as possible, there are two registration options. The first is free — that’s right, $0. The second option is $15 per player, and includes a new disc to take home. Parents and siblings are encouraged to play, too (separate registration required). The clinic is limited to the first 12 athletes.

If there is sufficient interest, the clinic could spur the start of a youth disc golf league, to be played in July and August on courses in Mount Savage and Cumberland.

The clinic is the second youth outreach event for the club, created in May 2022. The first outreach effort is hosting a private birthday party for a soon-to-be 9-year-old boy and 10 of his closest friends. Other outreach efforts including participation in the Frostburg State University Block Party on Sept. 7, the Halloween Parade in Frostburg and the Storybook Holiday Parade, also in Frostburg.

Questions should be directed by phone or text to 301-338-4533 or by email to alleganyplayground@gmail.com. Ready to register? Simply fill out the PDF form and return with payment (if applicable) to: Allegany County Disc Golf Club, 54 Hill St., Frostburg, MD 21532.
