MOUNT SAVAGE — Someone in the field mentioned that David Warder might not have been playing his best disc golf lately.

Someone forgot to tell that to Warder.

David Warder, seen here on the Mile Lane Disc Golf Course during Fall/Winter Doubles League play, played well from the first hole to the last to win Week 2 of the Saturday Morning Tag League.

The 31-year-old Frostburg resident earned the No. 1 tag with a score of 10-under par 65 on Saturday, the second week of the Saturday Morning Tag League at Mile Lane Disc Golf in Mount Savage, Warder finished 10 under on the par 75, 24-hole course, and one stroke ahead of Devon Spiker, 19, of Frostburg. Warder’s effort included 11 birdies and one bogey.

B.J. Lewis, of Frostburg, and Sam Wolodkin, 19, of Frostburg, finished tied for third (68). Series director Scott Mallery, 53, of Mount Savage, tied with Nic Davies, 25, of Mount Savage, with a 70. Mallery entered play with the No. 1 tag, having won in Week 1 with a round of 63. Brett Workman placed seventh (71) while Ethan Von Hagel, 19, of Cumberland, placed eighth (75) and Kevin Spradlin, 43, of Frostburg, placed a distant ninth.

The lineup looked quite different after the front 12. While Warder still led the field — tied with Wolodkin — with a  5-under 31, the other seven players were within striking distance and all nine players were separated by only four strokes. Workman was one stroke off the pace after the first 12 from the blue (short) tees with a 32, while Spradlin was fourth (33), Mallery and Lewis tied for fifth (34), and Davies, Spiker and Von Hagel were in a three-way tie for seventh (35).

The Saturday Morning Tag League resumes on June 11 with a 10 a.m. tee time. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. For more information call 304-790-9987 or email smallery@wvaging.com.

Devon Spiker found his rhythm and threw three strokes better from the longer tees on the back to move up from tied for seventh to second.
