CUMBERLAND — Frostburg resident David Warder topped the field of 14 to earn a Western Maryland Disc Golf league victory in Week 8 of league play on Thursday at Central Assembly of God Course in Cumberland.

Warder finished 10 strokes under the par 55 course with a score of 45, including 10 birdies, to regain the No. 1 tag in the league.

Three players — Bill Shreve, of Cumberland, Dan Beachy, of Frostburg, and Nick Russ, of Cumberland — were all tied at 6 under par after the front nine while Warder was one stroke back.

On the back nine, Warder shot a 5 under 23 while Shreve, Beachy, and Russ each threw a 25, allowing Warder to take the come-from-behind victory.

Shreve threw an ace — a hole in one — from 246 feet on the No. 7 basket from the white (long) tee. The ace was the second recorded in league play this season, which began in mid-March, and was Shreve’s second at Central. Shreve connected for an ace from red No. 7 during Fall/Winter Doubles League play on Dec. 5, 2021.

Luke Spradlin-Vogelsang, 8, of Frostburg, became the youngest person to become a member of Western Maryland Disc Golf.

Spradlin-Vogelsang was one of seven players to tie or beat a season best on Thursday night. He threw a personal-best round of 86, three strokes lower than his previous best of 89, which was thrown as a non-league member. Others in that special seven included Beachy (46), Russ (46), Shreve (46), Scott Mallery (50), Sam Wolodkin (54) and Kevin Spradlin (57).
