Wood strikes out 10 of 11 batters faced

FROSTBURG — Eli Metz and John Wood combined to throw six no-hit innings to lead the StormChasers past the Boogeymen 5-1 in both teams’ season-opener on Monday at Frostburg Community Park.

Metz had the ball to start the game and tossed 2 2/3 innings, allowing one earned one and striking out four while walking three.

Wood took over in relief to get the final out of the third inning— getting the Boogeymen batter to strike out looking. Wood, who earned the win in relief, faced 11 batters — striking out 10 — and issued zero free passes in 3 1/3 innings pitched.

Metz and Wood combined to face the minimum three batters in four of six innings.

At the plate, the StormChasers had only two hits against a trio of Boogeymen pitchers — Josiah Spradlin, Bex Litton and Kaleb Logan — but took advantage of six free passes.

Metz and Tanner Austin each hit a double in the win, while Metz scored three times and Masek Metz and Jackson McCormick each scored one run apiece. Eli Metz also recorded six stolen bases, while McCormick and Williams Barnes had three each, Levi Clise had two, Masek Metz had two and Jake Rice had one.
