Miners add 57 to National Honor Society roster

FROSTBURG — Toss aside the negative, Master Rick Rando suggested.

The guest speaker for the ninth induction ceremony for the Mountain Ridge High School chapter of the National Honor Society on Nov. 19 told the 57 new members to avoid “energy suckers” as they navigate the waters of life.

The audience of parents and educators were welcomed by MRHS Assistant Principal James Evans. Principal Gene Morgan welcomed Dr. David Cox, superintendent of Allegany County Public Schools. Before that, pianist Katie Miller signaled the start of a process of the incoming society members as they walked down the auditorium steps to take their seats in the front center rows.

NHS chapter officers Robert “Robin” Godfrey, Keirstin Tawney, Molly Offstein and Hayden Lindsey defined the National Honor Society characteristics required by each member: leadership, scholarship, service and character. The MRHS chapter is advised by Doug Baker and Vickie Hoover.

Inductees included: Ethan Amoroso, Sarah Anderson, Connor Baker, Cameron Bell, Heath Bice, Daniel Bittinger, Sei Boayue, Averey Bridges, McKenna Broadwater, Reid Buskirk, Ryan Buskirk, Megan Calcamp, Dalyn Carder, Brady Clark, Geoffrey Culler, Arin Custer, Braeden Davis, Haden DeHaven, Noah DeMichele;

Alexander Dittmer, Patrick Godfrey, Jordyn Green, Madison Green, Alicen Greenwald-Steele, Lexi Guthrie, Jennifer Heffner, Ellie Hewitt, Jenna Holshy, Naomi Kershaw, Tessa Lutton, Lydia Maffley, Trent Martin, Allison Martz, Allison McManus, Luke Mertz, Bryce Miller, Sabrina Morton, Madison Reed;

Students, parents and staff enjoyed a reception immediately following the ceremony in the Mountain Ridge dining room.
