FROSTBURG — A 25-year-old city woman is being held after a a Thursday morning stabbing on East College Avenue.
Melissa McAteer has been charged with first degree assault, second degree assault and reckless endangerment. She was ordered held on $45,000 bond by a District Court commissioner.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. Thursday, officers with the Frostburg Police Department responded to a reported stabbing at 145 E. College Ave. When officers arrived, they found a 30-year-old victim suffering from a stab wound to the back. EMS personnel arrived and began treating the victim, who was later transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland for further treatment.
The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) was contacted and responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The scene was processed by an evidence collection technician with the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Unit.
C3I Investigators interviewed witnesses and learned the suspect became involved in an argument with the victim and stabbed the victim in the back. The suspect then fled the scene.
