R’ham All-Stars advance with 7-5 victory

PEMBROKE — The Rockingham Double A (coach-pitch) All-Star squad lived to see another day of the state tournament after earning two wins on Monday at the Pembroke Sports Complex in Pembroke.

dyblogoRockingham won an early Monday afternoon game, 13-1, over Oxford. At the 8 p.m. game, Rockingham won 7-5 over Stanly. In the nightcap, the final inning was three up and three down. Evan Hodges fielded the play and threw to Vance Goodwin for the first out. Caden Sweatt made a nice dive in foul territory for the second out and Sam Thompson hauled in a fly ball to seal the win.

The All-Stars will play again at 4 p.m. Tuesday against West Robeson — the team that sent Rockingham to the losers’ bracket in an 11-9 contest.
