Police seek ‘armed and dangerous’ shooting suspect

LAURINBURG — A 20-year-old Laurinburg man is wanted by authorities for allegedly shooting into a moving vehicle.

The Laurinburg Police Department said Devonta Jameel Monroe, of Glenn Street, fired multiple shots on Tuesday toward a vehicle traveling on Spruce Street. Bullets struck the vehicle and a nearby residence on East Vance Street. Suspects were identified, and one — Jaylen Everett — was taken into custody early Wednesday in Laurinburg.

Monroe remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. He is known to frequent the area of Mary Town, 1st Street, Tucker Street, South Pine Street in Laurinburg. He also has connections to Greensboro, Fayetteville and Charlotte.

Police said Monroe has allegedly made threats to shoot officers and is a suspect in shooting a police vehicle two weeks ago.

Monroe is facing charges of discharging a firearm into a moving vehicle, discharging firearms into occupied property, discharging a firearm within city limits and felony conspiracy.
