Richmond County sheriff’s deputies said Jason Russell-Rape’s claim that he was robbed, beaten and had  his car stolen from him after stopping at Shiv’s Corner convenience store, located at the intersection of Wiregrass and County Home roads, is not true.

The store is closed from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m., and it was between these hours that Russell-Rape told deputies that he stopped at the station to put air in his vehicle tires. He told deputies that while h was there, another car came into the parking lot. Three black men came out of the car and one had a gun, Russell-Rape reported.

The men demanded money from the victim. When he handed over his wallet, they beat him unconscious and stole everything else he had with him, including his car. He was driving a red 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier.

The car was found abandoned between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m.

Russell-Rape was arrested on the lone misdemeanor charge and released after posting a $2,500 unsecure bond. He is scheduled to appear on Aug. 6 in Richmond County District Court.
