Severe thunder storm warning in effect for Richmond

RICHMOND COUNTY — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 4 p.m. Tuesday for parts of Richmond, Montgomery and Anson counties.

The NWS issued the warning at 3:16 p.m. for southeastern Montgomery County, northwestern Richmond County and east-central Anson County.

“Doppler Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 mph,” according to the warning. “This storm was located 8 miles east of Ansonville … or 11 miles northeast of Wadesboro … and moving east at 5 mph.”

Towns and cities potentially in the storm’s path include Mount Gilead, Ellerbe, Candor, Norman, Covington, Pekin and the Blewett Falls Lake and Sandhills Game Land area.
