Authorities are searching for a blue or green Chevy Tahoe that served as the getaway vehicle after an alleged robbery Wednesday afternoon at Leak Street Educational and Cultural Center.

breaking_news1-300x178The incident was reported shortly after 3 p.m. It’s alleged that a black male wearing black pants and a black shirt took a bag of cash from a woman at the former Leak Street High School in Rockingham and fled. The suspect and the woman apparently were involved in some type of altercation. It’s not known if the woman was injured.

The summer camp, which focuses on providing two meals a day for less fortunate youth in the area, has approximately 50 kids — but there weren’t any children around when the incident occurred. The came lets out daily between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., an official said, and the incident happened closer to 3:30 p.m.

Alerts for the alleged getaway vehicle were passed from Rockingham Police Department officers by dispatchers to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Update: Two Scotland County residents, a male and a female, were apprehended shortly after the incident. Officials estimated the two stole between $300 and $400.
