Legion Post 147 installs new officers

LEDBETTER — American Legion Post 147 in Rockingham installed officers for 2015-16 during a ceremony Friday night at post headquarters on Ledbetter Lake.

Richard W. Neville, national vice commander for the southeast region and a member of Post 71 in Clayton, was the installing officer.

Officers for 2015-16 are: Wayne Johnson, commander; John R. Carr, first vice commander; and Carlton Hawkins, second vice commander; Phillip Bradley is adjutant and finance officer; Michael D. White, judge advocate; David Williams, chaplain; and Thomas Schoonover, sergeant-at-arms; Jeff Joyner, post service officer; James Gross, membership; and Tom MacCallum, historian.

Members of the executive committee are Arthur Beardsley, Richard W. Lunceford and Robert L. Steele Sr.

Steele is past commander having served for three continuous years. He will be assuming new duties as commander of District 16, North Carolina Department of American Legion, which includes Richmond County.

Recent activities of Post 147 include coordinating the annual Easter Egg hunt on April 25 at Post 147 HQ, the Memorial Day weekend program on May 23 at Richmond County Veterans Memorial Park and the community flag disposal ceremony at the Post Home that afternoon.
