Kayakers start out along Little River at the Highway 731 bridge during the inaugural Zachary Goforth Memorial River Run on May 9 in Montgomery County.

Paddle along to learn about the region’s unique waterways, the flora and fauna that utilize this habitat, and how conservation is helping to protect our rivers from pollution.

Each month, the LandTrust will lead a paddle down a different river. Each paddle will start at 9am and take between two and four hours. The LandTrust will provide shuttles between take out and put in spots.

Each of the four paddle events can be used to complete the Paddle Challenge. The challenge is simply to complete eight different paddling adventures in the Uwharrie Region. Many PeeDeePost.com readers have already completed one of the eight — the 3.67-mile trip from Roberdel to Steele Street in Rockingham. Take note, however, that the challenge — for which those who complete all eight trips earn an embroidered patch — is for LandTrust of Central North Carolina members only.

The first adventure in the Summer Paddle Series is approximately 5.7 miles long, a point-to-point paddle along Rocky River from the Plank Road access point to the Highway 52 bridge. Click on each waterway name in the schedule below for a more detailed event description.

Here’s the schedule:
