HAMLET — Dakota Honeycutt will represent Richmond County Schools in the 2015 Summer Ventures program at East Carolina University in Greenville.
Honeycutt, who was first recognized on May 21 at the annual Academic Awards Banquet for the award, will attend the state-funded program for academically talented North Carolina students who have demonstrated interest in science and mathematics and aspire to a career in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM).
Honeycutt was recognized for her achievement again Tuesday night during the monthly public meeting of the Richmond County Board of Education.
he North Carolina General Assembly enacted legislation in 1984 which created Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics (SVSM). It was conceived as a cost-free enrichment program for academically motivated high school students potentially interested in a career in science or mathematics. SVSM would provide participants resident experiences on university campuses during the summer.
Lauren Strong, of Richmond Early College High School, also will attend the summer program.
