SOUTHERN PINES — The Southern Pines Fire and Rescue regrets to announce the passing of Robert Patterson.

Patterson retired in January after 45 years of service with the unit.

“His dedication and 45 years of service to the fire department will never be forgotten,” the department posted on the company’s Facebook page.

The Pilot reported that Chief Hampton Williams called Patterson an “institution,” and “beloved and respected” member of the department who was also a “character, who loved to stir the pot” and mess with the other fire fighters.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jun 12 at the Southern Pines Fire Department. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Southern Pines Fire Department with burial to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
