CARTHAGE — Three Moore County residents were arrested and jailed in connection with an assault and drug activity at a Summer Hill Church Road home in Carthage.
Moore County sheriff’s deputies responded on June 9 to a report of an assault. The victim, Bennett Sweatt, had suffered a single gunshot wound to his shoulder area. Sweatt was transported to Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, where he was treated and released.
Deputies executed a search warrant on June 17 at the Summer Hill Church Road home. There, deputies seized 368 dosage units of amphetamine prescription pills, 88 dosage units of morphine prescription pills, four dosage units of oxycodone, three dosage units of diazepam, 20 dosage units of alprazolam, one gram of psilocybin mushrooms, one gram of marijuana and items of assrted drug paraphrnalia.
The estimated street value of all seized drugs is $4,900. Alprazolam and diazepam are schedule IV controlled substances. Amphetamine, oxycodone and morphine are schedule II controlled substances. Marijuana is a schedule VI controlled substance and Hallucinogenic mushrooms are a schedule I controlled substance.
During the investigation, a 12-gauge shotgun which was believed to be the weapon used in the shooting was recovered at another location.
James Anthony Wood, 40, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, trafficking in opiates and a laundry list of drug possession charges. Wood was ordered held on a $125,000 secured bond.
Both Darian Jade Wood, 18, and Christian Michael Sherwood, 23, were charged with felony drug possession drugs. Each suspect was ordered held on a $25,000 secured bond.
All three suspects were confined to the Moore County Detention Center.
