LAUREL HILL — The Ellerbe Wildcats baseball team won its Southeastern Middle School Conference tournament opener at Carver on Thursday, 7-6, in eight innings.

EllerbeCarver mounted a comeback in the seventh, tying the game on a hit batsmen, two doubles and a walk.  Webb was able to record the final out to push the game into extras.  In the top of the eighth inning, Garrett Richardson reached with one out on an error, stole second and scored on a Webb RBI single.

Webb had three hits for the Wildcats, while Zac Mabe contributed with a double to the left field wall.  Ellerbe was able to capitalize on some mistakes in the first by Carver, going up 3-0 early.  After Carver battled back in the 3rd to make it 3-2, Ellerbe scored three more runs on some patient at-bats, good baserunning, and a two-run single by Webb.

Ellerbe adavances in the tourney to play Wednesday at Rockingham.

“We are thrilled to be moving on in the playoffs.  This was a big win for our program and a great reward for the hard work the boys have put in the last three years.”
