ROBERDEL — The children at Roberdel Baptist Preschool are bundles of energy with summer around the corner and the days beautiful and sunny.
Today, Sherrie McMillan and Linda McKenzie, teachers in the 4-year-old classes, had the perfect solution: field day. Students were invited and asked to bring a parent, grandparent or friend to join them for the festivities.
Twenty children did just that. Amid squeals of delight and contagious laughter, the kids played games including a ball toss, fill the bucket and a water balloon toss.
In one of the games, the kids and their partners had to join hands and form a long line, each class had it’s own line, a hula hoop was placed on the begining person’s arm and had to be passed from one end and back again without breaking the chain of people. At first, the kids were perplexed but after a moment or two the hula hoops were quickly moving from person to person.
When the last game had ended, the teachers announced that it was time for ice cream sundaes in the fellowship hall.
“This is the best day ever,” one of the students exclaimed.
A chorus of friends agreed.
Students were served their treat and a drink and everyone was awarded a medal. Reflecting on the fun day, two students agreed that the balloon toss was their favorite game of the day even though the balloon burst on them and not their parents.
