Resignations, retirements fill school personnel report

HAMLET — The latest personnel report from Richmond County Schools is chock full of teacher resignations and retirements. That means Julian Carter, who took over as executive director of human resources for the district, has his work cut out for him.

The personnel report and addendum accepted at Tuesday night’s monthly public meeting by Superintendent Dr. Cindy Goodman and the elected members of the Richmond County Board of Education included seven teacher resignations and five retirement announcements, including four certified employees. The report also included four new hires of certified personnel.

RCSResignations

Effective June 12, East Rockingham Elementary School will lose Chesley Cresap and Kelly Strada, Mineral Springs Elementary School will lose Lauren Bailey and Washington Street Elementary School will lose kindergarten teacher Brooke Billingsley. In addition, Hamlet Middle School will lose sixth grade teacher Brittany Raynor, Rockingham Middle School will lose Angela Boyette and the Cordova School will lose Jamie Sabin.

Retirements

* John F. Ingram, custodian, from Mineral Springs Elementary School, effective June 30
* Sharon Hammann, L.J. Bell Elementary, teacher, July 1
* Myra Leak, Mineral Springs Elementary, speech-language pathologist, July 1
* Dorothy Shutt, Mineral Springs Elementary, teacher
* Thomas Brown Smith, Richmond Senior High, auto tech teacher

Transfers

Gregory Norton, a drafting teacher at Richmond Senior High School, will transfer effective June 15 to the central office as instructional management coordinator. Norton will replace Graham Fox.

Kelly Whitley, a teacher at L.J. Bell Elementary, will remain at L.J. Bell but become the school’s media coordinator, replacing Leiah Jarrell, beginning Aug. 18.

New hires

Jerri Porter will start Aug. 18 at East Rockingham Elementary School. Porter will replace Jamie Campbell.

John Parker has been a science teacher at Richmond County’s Ninth Grade Academy since April 20 and will remain in that position through at least June 13. Parker replaced Dallas Winters, but will receive substitute pay until he grades from UNC-Pembroke in May.

Nicole Abisror will replace Laura Williams as a teacher at Fairview Heights Elementary School beginning Aug. 18.

Jennifer Loving will replace Gene Shutt as a science teacher at Rohanen Middle School beginning Aug. 18.

Other new hires include:

* Elijah Lockhart and Brenda Worley as bus drivers
* David Cameron and Jerrod Horne as substitute bus drivers
* Tina Jennifer Aguilar as a food service assistant at Richmond Senior High School.
