RICHMOND COUNTY — City and rural carriers in Hamlet and Rockingham will participate in the 23rd annual Letter Carriers Food Drive this Saturday throughout Richmond County.

The carriers will collect nonperishable food items on their designated routes. All food collected will be take to Our Daily Bread food bank of Rockingham.

Carriers will begin distributing special plastic bags this week during normal delivery times to residents’ homes. Those bags, then, can be filled with unopened, unused or unwanted nonperishable food items to be given to the food bank through post office employees.

Letter carriers will deliver the donated items to the Rockingham Post Office on Saturday afternoon. Customers don’t have to wait to make a donation; they can bring their donation to the Rockingham Post Office during regular business hours this week.

Richmond County residents have donated nearly 20,000 pounds of food items each of the past two years.
