RSHS Assistant Principal Tonjua Chapman awards Sengthavy Manivanh a pin for earning the President’s Award.
Principal Keith McKenzie said he hoped the ceremony for North Carolina Scholars and President Award recipients served as “a springboard for the future of our brightest minds.”
McKenzie and Wiley Mabe, chairman of the Richmond County Board of Education, distributed the certificates as Assistant Principal Joy Moree — himself a Raider (Class of 2000) and former N.C. Scholar awardee — called out each student’s name. Assistant Principal Tonjua Chapman distributed golden pins to Presidential Award recipients.
Students who earned each distinction were required to meet certain eligibility criteria, such as a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and certain scores on the SAT, the ACT or end-of-grade testing.
More than 60 students were recognized during the ceremony.
